Brian “Rescue” Hein

January 10, 1981- May 27, 2022

On May 27, 2022, the world lost a bright and beautiful soul, and the House Music community lost one of their best and a true modern day pioneer – DJ Rescue –  the creator of a robust anthology of soul shaking, dance floor packing tracks, mixes, sets and releases! Brian Rescue Hein brought people together with his music, the power of his presence, and his deep connection to friends and family.

For those of you (which is a lot of you) who knew Brian during any period of his life, you know the type of guy he was…a FUCKING EXCELLENT GUY! (not to mention handsome and talented)

If you are related to Brian and followed his life through the lens of a loving family member — you know who Brian was. If you met him as a sweet kid and co-created one of his many wild stories through his youth and teenage years — you definitely know who Brian Hein was. If you were one of his beloved students over the past nine years and got to experience him as an engaging and creative university teacher — YOU know who Ajarn Brian Hein was. If you witnessed his beginning and ascent as a talented artist in the music industry or collaborated with him on tracks, projects or events over the years — you know Brian RESCUE Hein! If you were a friend in recovery, travel, or otherwise, and got to spend time in profound, yet easy and natural conversation with him — YOU know Brian well.

Remembering his kind and open heart and the music he so passionately produced, he is an inspiration to us all, especially anyone in Recovery or struggling with substance abuse. So many people have reached out to tell their stories of how he helped them overcome their own struggles and how to achieve sobriety in the club/music industry. Our music community is full of alcohol and substance abuse and for 12 years he was able to tread those waters and be a beacon to help others to do the same.

His legacy lives on through his top-notch, feel-good, make-you-move music, the memory of how he lived his life with intention and depth, and the tragedy of his sudden death – reminding us that sobriety is a fragile gift, not to be neglected or taken for granted.

The family and friends of Brian Rescue Hein believe that the mission of S.AF.E. – Sober AF Entertainment is in complete alignment with the way Brian lived his life. He worked hard to get sober and then he did what we are supposed to do with a life in Recovery — go out and live our best and most beautiful life! Brian knew that getting sober did not mean giving up your passions or the fun and excitement of life, but the exact opposite — learning how to be safe and sober in any setting, including the music scene, which brings so much joy to so many. If you would like to honor Brian’s life and legacy by donating to an organization that is working to create and normalize safe and sober spaces in places that are traditionally rife with substance and alcohol use, please donate to Sober AF Entertainment (S.AF.E.).

Brian Rescue Hein, your beautiful, creative, loving spirit allowed you to spread your love like a wildfire, and you will be missed more than words can express.
